In 1994, Indonesian filmmakers came up with a new genre called "full film" which took place during a specific time period and had a specific plot, as opposed to other genres such as "horror", "comedy", or "romantic comedy" that has no set plot. Full films were first created in order to avoid critical backlash from society for inaccurate representation of events that happen in Indonesia's history or culture. The 1970s was a very interesting time for Indonesia. The country’s political climate was at its lowest point, even though Suharto continued to be President. This time period produced an abundance of fake news. Many fake news releases were being made in order to gain followers or create attention, which resulted in many public demonstrations (which often turned bloody) against certain events that happened during the year of the 1970s. This era is usually called "full film era" because it contains an abundance of these complicated plots that are filled with dilemmas and challenges. During this time, many political events occurred that were not accurately represented in the Indonesian media. This is because the media was heavily controlled by Suharto's government. Klub Harapan (Club Hope) is a Yogyakarta-produced film about the National Monument riot on 15 August 1965. The story starts on 9 August 1965, with an Indonesian Chinese woman who was named Tjokorda preparing for her wedding, which will be held later that day. On her wedding day, she goes to the National Monument in Jakarta where the riots are occurring. Tjokorda experiences being attacked by both Indonesian Chinese youth and Indonesian Muslim youth. She becomes frightened by how viciously her attackers use their weapons, especially at how quickly they can shoot at any moment. She eventually flees to the national monument's balcony looking down into the streets below her. During that time, she stares down at the streets, trying to find her family. However, she falls into a trance and looks around for them. She then has an epiphany about how these people are fighting for independence while Tjokorda is just happy to be married to her boyfriend. As Tjokorda's wedding concludes, her uncle comes up with a plan to stop the riots. Tjokorda's uncle wants the city's chief of police booked under his daughter's name in order for him to be hidden from suspicion during the riots. As the riot begins, he wants them to take over Keppel Harbour Police Unit (KHP) by force. cfa1e77820
